What is a Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia? (ASFA)

The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) is the peak policy, research and advocacy body for Australia's superannuation industry.

ASFA's purpose is to help achieve the best retirement outcomes for super fund members through the development of sound public policy and industry best practice. ASFA has been operating since 1962.

ASFA is a not-for-profit association. It reinvests income back into the industry and community through research and advocacy projects, drawing on the expertise of its policy and Research Centre teams. This includes producing submissions to government, reports, best practice papers, and education for the community.

Key principles

Non-sector aligned: ASFA focuses on whole-of-system issues including superannuation system design, regulatory frameworks, industry operations and governance. It takes positions in the best interests of fund members rather than advocating for any one sector.

Non-party political: ASFA advocates for sound, long-term public policy. Its members include superannuation funds from the corporate, industry, retail and public sectors, as well as service providers, representing the whole super industry.
